Cardinal BandThe Shiner Catholic School Band is one of the largest and most successful organizations on campus. The program is comprised of 5th-12th grade students. We believe it is our duty to use our God-given talents to uplift the world through the beauty and power of music. All 5th-8th grade students are required to be members of the band.
The Shiner - St. Paul High School Band is the premiere performing ensemble for Shiner Catholic School. This group is made up of 8th-12th grade students. This group performs for many events throughout the year including send-offs, pep rallies, Christmas in the Park, Veterans Day ceremony, 2 concerts per year, as well as 3 TAPPS competitions.
The High School Band has had a great deal of success, earning TAPPS Field Band State Champions at the 2023 competition, and earning 3rd place at the 2024 competition. The High School Band also earned TAPPS 2A Overall Runner-Up in 2024 and then winning the Overall State Championship in 2025. The band has also been selected as ATSSB Outstanding Performance Series State Finalists in each of the last 2 years.

About our Director
Mr. Jacob Heck is the Director of Bands at Shiner Catholic School. He is entering his 12th year as a band director overall and his 5th year in Catholic education. In the last 3 years, his groups have earned 5 of the last 6 TAPPS Band Championships. He has also been selected as the TAPPS 2A Fine Arts Director of the Year 2 of the last 3 years (2023, 2025). As a performer, Mr. Heck has performed with the Amarillo Opera, the Town & Gown Band, the Crossroads Community Band, and many churches all across Texas and Oklahoma. As a member of the Band Director’s Marching Band, Mr. Heck performed in the 2023 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in NYC and will perform in the 2026 Rose Parade in n Pasadena, CA.
In his spare time, Mr. Heck enjoys traveling with his wife Morgan, cheering on the Oklahoma City Thunder, and taking care of his two corgis.

Beginning Band
The Shiner Catholic School Beginning Band is made up of students who are in the 5th grade. At the beginning of the 5th grade year, students test out the instruments to see which ones are the best fit and play that instrument for the remainder of their time in band. This group performs at the annual Christmas Concert as well as the Spring Concert. They also have the opportunity to compete at the solo/ensemble competition and earn medals.

Junior High Band
The Shiner Catholic School Junior High Band Is made up of 6th & 7th grade students. While most of these students are second and third year payers, no experience is necessary! Mr. Heck will teach these students an instrument add get them up to speed. Private lessons may also be available to help accelerate the process.

Opportunities
Members of the 7th grade band get the opportunity to perform at all HOME Cardinal football games as well as pep rallies! This includes playing in the stands and potentially performing on the field for halftime. This group also performs at the annual Christmas Concert as well as the Spring Concert. They also have the opportunity to compete at the solo/ensemble competition and earn medals. 7th grade students also have the opportunity to audition for the ATSSB All-Region Band.
